Non-Registered Account

It is also known as Open Account. Non-registered accounts are investment accounts offered by banks and financial service providers in Canada, as well as mutual fund companies. It is flexible, and has no contribution limits. You are free to open the account and keep it as long as you wish.

Tax-Free Saving Account (TFSA)

The Tax-Free Savings Account is an account available in Canada that provides tax benefits for investing. TFSA contributions are not tax deductible, but the investment  income, including capital gains and dividends earned is tax-free.

Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)

A Registered Retirement Savings Plan, or Retirement Savings Plan, is a type of Canadian account for holding savings and investment assets. RRSPs have various tax advantages compared to investing outside of tax-preferred accounts. RRSP contributions can be used to reduce your income tax. Plan earlier for you retirement.

Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)

An RESP is a tax shelter designed to benefit post-secondary students. The Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) is provided to complement RESP contributions, wherein the government of Canada contributes 20% of the first $2,500 in annual contributions made to an RESP.

Locked-In Retirement Account (LIRA)

It is generally offered through a company pension plan. when you leave your employer, usually you would be given the choice to transfer the money to your own retirement account with your preferred financial institution. A LIRA is designed to accumulate and manage money that’s been moved from a company pension plan.

Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF)

RRIF is a tax-deferred retirement plan under Canadian tax law. Before the end of the year in which an individual turns 71, it is mandatory to either withdraw all funds from a RRSP plan or convert the RRSP to a RRIF or life annuity, and the withdrawal is fully taxable as ordinary income.
